Cycling is one of the most popular sports, because the exercises are very simple and therefore can be done by everyone integrated into day-to-day life. As a result, cycling has become a proven medical way to increase fitness for patients in rehabilitation programs. In order to be able to control the fitness level, technical subjects must be equipped with monitoring systems. This is not new, but existing systems are mostly realized as a fixed installation at the bicycle. Mounting the power meter from bicycle to bicycle is complex and uncomfortable. However, it would be useful to have a portable measurement system, independent of the bicycle. To realize this, a concept was established which lead to a prototype. The concept was proved by a virtual simulation of the designed spring plate and a test setup was built. Next step will be to consolidate data at an Internet of Things platform.
