6th Hesse Conference Urban Research

The Knowledge of Cities – Climate Policy Perspectives of Urban Research”

Complex tasks of urban development can only be handled through interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation of science and practice. One primary focus has to be on the goal of a social, economic, ecologic and sustainable development.

With this in mind the 6th Hesse Conference of the “Netzwerk Stadtforschung Hessen” (Network urban research Hesse) made the cities’ handling of the challenges of climate change subject of discussion. The priority of the scientific and public debate about climate change often lays on an international, European or national Layer. Deciding settings of the agenda are doubtlessly made on those layers, but the consumption of energy is concentrated in cities and a large part of climate relevant emissions are produced there. Furthermore climatic consequences like floods, severe weather or extreme heat will hit cities especially due to the dense settlement and the multitude of critical infrastructure within them.
