Master Lectures Architecture

Carsten Land - The Genealogy of Portuguese Architecture

The Master Lectures Architecture in Winter Semester 2019/2020 was created on the initiative of Prof. Pedro Ravara, Lisbon, who has been teaching as a visiting professor in the International Master Program in Architecture at Frankfurt UAS University for three semesters.

The series, in which only Portuguese architects will have their say, will report on the theory and practice of architecture in Portugal. For the first time, the master lecture series will take place as a cooperative project between the Deutsches Architekturmuseum Frankfurt, the Städelschule Frankfurt and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences Frankfurt.

Portugal represents an important contribution to European architecture. Eduardo Souto de Moura and Pritzker Prize winner Alvaro Siza, have had a significant influence on architecture in the 20th and early 21st centuries through their work. Their references to the respective location, the treatment and appreciation of the material and their urban sociological approaches have impressed and influenced generations of architects worldwide.
