An international comparison of theories and practices

The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the AL 1890 funding agreement.

Duration 2022-2024

After almost two and a half years of research, KOPRO Int. has completed the first research phase and will continue to be funded by the German Research Foundation in the continuation phase - which focuses on a closer look at co-produced sustainability projects.

Building on the first phase and ongoing research, the project team will be working on a final project publication in the coming months.

SYMPOSIUM: What kind of resources do we share?

The DFG KOPRO Int. research symposium: "What kind of resources do we share", which took place from 29 - 31 January 2024, was an inter- and transdisciplinary conference from the fields of architecture, urban design, urban planning, social and cultural sciences and political science with researchers from Frankfurt UAS Department 1, research partners from the P. Universidad Catolica de Chile, from the research locations in Berlin and Frankfurt as well as the interested specialist public. The event took place at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, Frankfurt UAS and Kulturcampus Bockenheim and was attended by around 60 people. With a mixture of inputs and sessions, the symposium opened up the opportunity to discuss and explore options for action in a cooperative interplay between actors from academia, practice, administration and social movements.

Save the Date

As part of the final stage for the research project for the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft: DFG-KOPRO Int. – „Approaches of co-produced urban development and their influence on the development of urban spaces“, we are glad to announce and warmly invite you to our Concluding Symposium taking place in Frankfurt, at the Frankfurt UAS, the DAM - Deutsches Architekturmuseum, and the Stadtplanungsamt, on January 29th - 31th January of 2024. The event will welcome a variety of guests from Europe and Latin America as well as works submitted via an open Call for Participation.

Located at and supported by the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, the Technische Universität Berlin and at finally the Frankfurt UAS, the international research project has been developed between researchers, urban planners, architects and academics in Germany and Chile. Based on the international project work over the last years and learning about Commons and Co-production we will focus on questions such as:

What kind of resources do we share in urban development and design practices?

How do we do this?

And, how can projects scale-up to continue beyond the pilot stage and become public policies?

Finally, what do we learn for sustainable urban design as a communal practice?

The symposium, framed over two days + plus excursions, will on the first day focus on the research learnings by discussing input/feedback from external guests as well as network partners and research participants. The second day will examine how the work and its findings can be conceptualized into a broader scientific context by looking at other perspectives on co-production from external researchers and professionals. After the Symposium, an additional excursion day will give the opportunity to interlink and start dialogues on the findings and to better get to learn the venue city, with its local actors, administration, academia as well as projects on co-produced urban practices.

Please do not hesitate contacting us in case of any further inquiry.
