Library registration

In order to borrow books from the library or to use interlibrary loan services you need to register with the library. The registration as well as using the library is free of charge. Please come to the service desk.

With the registration you accept the library regulations (Benutzungsordnung ) and the regulations for the use of information technology facilities at the Frankfurt UAS ( IT-Rahmennutzungsordnung).

Registration times

  • Mo - Fri 9 am - 5 pm
  • Sat 10 am - 3 pm

With registering your study chip will be activated and will serve as your library card.

Student having started Oct 2017 or after

Please bring the following documents to the service desk:

  • your study chip
  • ID

Please add your university email adress to your library account after registering with the library. 

Student having started before Oct 2017

Please fill out the registration form and bring the following documents to the service desk:

  • your study chip
  • Passport and confirmation of registration (Meldebescheinigung)* or residence title (Aufenthaltstitel)

*Please note: If you are Erasmus student, please tell our staff at the service desk. As Erasmus student you don't need a confirmation of registration (Meldebescheinigung).

You are welcome to continue using the library after graduation. Please keep your study chip for this purpose and come to the service desk. Your library membership will be renewed and you can use all library services offered for guests. 

 

Please fill out the registration form and bring the following documents to the service desk:

  • German ID (Personalausweis)
    • or passport and confirmation of registration (Meldebescheinigung)
    • or residence title (Aufenthaltstitel)
  • a confirmation of your being employed at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences

At the service desk you'll get your library card. For faculty and staff special borrowing conditions apply. In case you are listed on one of our websites or the university intranet, we do not need further confirmation.

As an assistant lecturer please fill out and sign the following form in addition.

As a member of the project staff, please fill out and sign the following form in addition.

Even if your are not a student, a member of the faculty or staff at the Frankfurt UAS you can register with and use the library. Please fill out the registration form and bring the following documents to the service desk:

  • German ID (Personalausweis)
    • or passport and confirmation of registration (Meldebescheinigung)
    • or residence title (Aufenthaltstitel)

Please note: minors need to bring a letter of agreement signed by their legal representative in addition.

Lost study chip or library card and change of address

If your study chip or library card has been lost or stolen, contact the library by phone (+49 69 1533-3300), email (bibl(at)fra-uas.remove-this.de) or in person right away. We will block your card so no one can use it.

Please inform the library in case your address has changed.

 

Loan terms for students and guests

Except for the historical collection all books are stored in open-access shelves. You retrieve books from the open stacks yourself. For borrowing please bring your study chip or library card and come to the service desk or use the self-service terminal for check-out.

Standard loan period: 28 days.

  • All items with no tag on the spine and no remark in the catalog (except for journals, standards, course reserves, final theses, and the historical collection)
  • USB drives (obtainable at the service desk)

Short term lending: for one day (or Friday for the weekend), items cannot be renewed.

  • All items with a tag Kurzausleihe on the spine and remark short term lending in the library catalog
  • Keys for lockers

Not for loan: items can be used in the library only.

  • All items with a tag nicht entleihbar on the spine and remark usage in the libary only in the library catalog
  • Journals, standards and the historical collection
  • Course reserves
  • Final theses

Here you can check when your books are due:

Receipt:

  • When you borrow books at the service desk or use the self-service facilities you will get a receipt indicating the due date.

Library account:

Email alert:

  • Please add your email address to your library account. You will receive a loan reminder by email one week ahead of the due date and a second reminder one day ahead. For books on short term lending there will not be a reminder.
  • Please note: It is still your responsibility to return the books or renew your loans on time. The library cannot guarantee the delivery of reminders by email.

You also can renew standard loans up to four times via your library account, unless someone else has reserved the item.

Which items can be renewed:

  • All items with standard loan period (28 days)

Renewal period:

  • 28 days
  • The new loan period starts with the date of renewing.
  • You can renew items until the day the books are due.

Number of possible renewals:

Renewing is not possible if:

  • the book is for short-term lending  only
  • you already renewed the item twice,
  • the book is overdue,
  • someone else reserved it,
  • your membership has expired
  • you have fines to pay.

Returning items and checking them back in:

  • At the service desk on the ground floor
  • At the self-service machines on the ground floor

Returning only:

  • In the book return boxes at the library entrance (outside opening hours)

Please remember that books in the book return boxes remain your responsibility until they are received and checked in at the service desk.

  • Instead of four weeks you can borrow books and other items for two month;
  • you can renew the items once online for additional two months;
  • you can reserve up to 10 items currently on loan.

Please note: A renewal is not possible if your library account is blocked due to fines, or the items are requested by another user.

To take advantage of this service, please ask the registrar's office (Prüfungsamt) to confirm you are currently writing a final paper by using the following form.

Number of possible reservations:

  • You may reserve up to 4 items currently on loan. 

How to reserve items:

  • Once you found the book in the library catalog just click on reserve.
  • Log into your library account by entering your library card number and your password. Preset as your password is your date of birth (ddmmyy).

Picking up reserved books:

  • An alert that the book is ready for pick-up will be sent via email.
  • The item will be available for you at the service desk for 7 days.
  • In case you did not add your email address to your library account, you can check directly in your library account, if the requested item is ready for pick-up.

You can also make a purchase suggestion.

As a member of the faculty or staff you are granted borrowing privileges.

Standard loan period: 3 months (84 days).

  • All items with no tag on the spine and no remark in the catalog (except for journals, standards, course reserves, final theses, and the historical collection)
  • USB drives (obtainable at the service desk)

Short term lending: for one day (or Friday for the weekend).

  • All items with a tag Kurzausleihe on the spine and remark short term lending in the library catalogue

Fees and fines

  • Using the library and borrowing: free of charge
  • Scanning: free of charge
  • Interlibrary loan (Germany): 1,50 Euro per order
  • 1st overdue notice: 3 Euro per item
  • 2nd overdue notice: plus 3 Euro per item
  • 3rd overdue notice: plus 6 Euro per item   

Fees according to VwKostO-MWK and HVwKostG.

  • Books or other library material: 11 Euro administration fee per item plus cost of item
  • Replacement fee for new library card: 15 Euro  (according to VwKostO-MWK and HVwKostG)

Please note that the borrower is responsible for accumulated overdue fines whether or not the overdue notice is received. Outstanding fines and other charges will prevent borrowing, reserving and renewing and must be paid in full.

You can pay your fines at the service desk in cash, from your study chip account, by using the Mensa card (money-card for the cafeteria), or by bank transfer using the following bank details:
