Practical study term (Berufspraktisches Semester BPS)

The civil engineering degree course at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences is practice-oriented. The integrated practical study term is an important part of this practical orientation. It pursues the objectives:

  • conscious choice of profession and identification with the profession of a civil engineer
  • Further deepening and rounding off of the learnt through practical application and higher clarity
  • introduction to engineer-technical working methods through practical employment and taking on responsibility in collaborative processes
  • Deepening of the knowledge on collaborative professional fields
  • Shortening of the orientation and orientation period when entering a profession
  • Elevation of the professional chances through personal contacts
  • Assessment of the personal social competencies
  • Improvement of the language competence of a foreign language during a practical term abroad

These goals cannot be reached alone by the University of Applied Sciences, it is dependent on companies, engineering office or administrations of the building industry which would like to shape the education of practical work with the academic studies together with the institution of higher education.
