The joint offer of the degree course Biological/Bioprocess Engineering with the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Rüsselsheim, takes account of the objectives of the Bologna Process.  The Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences offers the specialization field of bioprocess engineering, while the foci are on

  • bioreaction engineering,
  • genetic engineering,
  • new developments in medicine,
  • large-scale production of antibiotics and
  • special methods in down-stream processing,
  • renewable energies and
  • renewable resources.

Environmental engineers can be employed in any area, in which environmental-relevant problems are to be solved: Large companies of the chemical industry and other industries, plant engineering, medium-sized businesses, engineering offices, laboratories, research institutes, consulting companies and in the public service sector. The tasks that are to be fulfilled in each field are different. Environmental engineers are generalists with respect to the environment. They possess broad, well-founded knowledge and additionally social competencies and communication strength. Business administration thought processes, as well as a basic understanding of the law and the legislation are urgently required.

Admission requirements

  • A degree in environmental technology, bioprocess engineering, as well as similar degree courses with at least seven semesters and 210 credit points.
  • A final grade B or if the mark cannot be shown with ECTS credits, the final grade of 2.5 must have been achieved in the first degree course (bachelor, Diplom).
  • The missing credits must be made up for if the degree was granted for six semesters or for less than 210 ECTS credits. If no practical semester was completed during previous studies, the lacking credits must be made up by an internship. If this was already completed at an amount of 30 credits, but the overall amount of 210 credits is still not reached, then lectures from the bachelor degree programs environmental technology offered at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences or bioprocess engineering offered at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences are to be completed, which will supplement the previously achieved qualifications adequately.

Applications are accepted for the summer and winter semester. The enrollment takes place at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. The application form for our combined online / paper-based procedure can be found on the following website: www.hs-rm.de/bewerbung The contact information of the Admissions Office can be found on our homepage at: www.hs-rm.de/studienbuero

Prospects

Various tasks and areas of employment are open to the graduates in order to carry out technically planned tasks and focus on innovative new and further developments that are of central importance to biological and environmental engineering in the industry and economy due to the broadly structured training and education.
As a graduate of this degree course, you will plan and construct for instance bioengineering plants, complete development, analyses and monitoring tasks in the field of biological and environmental analytics, implement production and analytical guidelines in the biomedical field, develop and implement ecological recovery technologies. You will assess environmental quality, plan and use eco-efficient energy systems, create expert reports, develop purification techniques in biotechnical productions or you will work in the development of processes and equipment for the miniaturized routine diagnostics for medical, environmental and biological engineering.
