We are delighted that you are interested in a professorship in our department. Below we give you many good reasons why a professorship with us is so attractive. You will also find out what steps you need to take when applying. Perhaps we will soon be able to welcome you as a new colleague in our midst!

Profile of the department

With around 3,400 students, the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law is one of the established business and law faculties in the German university landscape. Every year, we admit more than 800 students to 18 degree programs. The continuous development of teaching is of the utmost importance to us. This is why we attach great importance to modern, practice-oriented and motivating methods. For example, we work with and close to the students in an excellent supervision ratio, i.e. in small groups, in the form of seminars, project and case studies as well as planning studies. Company-based practical phases round off the proven teaching concept. We are also a specialist partner for "lifelong learning" in selected fields of expertise and have been offering companies in the region support in the area of further training for many years. We are also a valued partner in the field of applied research. Here, we focus our activities primarily on the three main research areas of "Mobility and Logistics", "Management and Leadership" and "Digitalization and Law". We also transfer our knowledge to society through symposia, seminars and publications.

Note for applicants with foreign qualifications:

If you have obtained a university degree abroad, please enclose a certificate evaluation with your application

Your teaching concept should be two to three pages long and describe your main topics. Please explain how you prepare, conduct and follow up your courses didactically. Please also describe how you integrate new media into your teaching, motivate students and incorporate practical experience into your teaching. Please also describe how you see your role as a teacher in the future. We would also like to know what other subject areas you can cover and whether you already have experience in teaching and examinations. You may already have ideas on how you can contribute to academic self-administration - if so, we would be pleased if you could also briefly outline these. Please attach any teaching evaluations of your courses to the appendix.

The research concept should also be two to three pages long and include in particular your current and planned research priorities. You should also describe any scientific publications, collaborations, etc. that you have published or will soon be submitting. You should also describe how the research field is developing and how you position yourself within it. This should include references to possible collaborations and synergy effects at the university. What is your long-term vision? Where do you want to publish? Which conferences would you like to attend or organize? Which institutes or academic disciplines, possibly also outside the university, would you like to collaborate with? How do your research topics fit in with the department?

The concept for acquiring third-party funding is closely linked to the research concept. This should be approximately one to two pages long and should outline how you intend to acquire third-party funding in the future and/or which project funding you have already acquired. What activities are you planning? What programs are you considering? Which cooperation partners would you like to approach? The topic of transfer, combined with the question: "How have you become and will you become visible?", is also important to us. Please describe here what you would do to gain visibility in, for example, non-scientific media. You are also welcome to explain which measures have led to your success so far.

An appointment procedure is a complex process in which the steps must be followed precisely. Below you will find an overview of what happens once your application documents have been received.

  1. Review of the application documents by the Appointments Committee, assessment of eligibility for appointment and determination of an invitation list based on suitability for the call for applications
  2. Trial course and interview
The purpose of the trial course is to assess the didactic and communication skills of the applicants. The appointment committee will send you a topic for this. The trial teaching events are open to the university public so that students can also get an idea of the candidates who may be teaching them in the coming semesters. The students evaluate the course using a standardized questionnaire.
In the subsequent discussion, which is conducted as a structured interview, the applicants and the members of the appointment committee each have the opportunity to get to know each other personally, clarify questions and discuss mutual expectations.
  3. Create appointment list
After the trial courses and the interviews, the Appointments Committee draws up a list of persons who can be appointed.
  4. Obtain external expert opinions
As a rule, two external expert opinions are then obtained for each of these candidates.
Based on these reports, the appointment committee draws up a staggered list of three (appointment proposal).
  5. Voting on appointments to committees
The appointment proposal is put to a vote in the Faculty Council and then in the Senate.
  6. Professor appointed
The appointment of the new colleague is made by the President of Frankfurt UAS.

Due to the complexity and the many coordination steps in the process, an appointment procedure can take up to a year from application to appointment.
