Information on our courses and workshops for German as a foreign/second language
The Language Center offers many different courses in German ranging from level A1 to C1.2 (CEFR) in all phases of your studies. Some of our courses and workshops are also designed for students with German as a second language.
After successfully completing the levels A2, B1, and B2, you can take part in the UNIcert® exam for each level and obtain a UNIcert® Certificate.
You can find information about the preparatory courses for the DSH exam (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang, German language examination for the university admission) under STEPS Frankfurt*International.

Beginner | A1 | I can introduce myself and understand simple sentences and questions. I can understand short texts and conversations about my everyday life. | ||
Waystage | A2 | I can introduce myself and others. I can inform those around me about my everyday life and understand a conversation/text about familiar everyday topics. | ||
Threshold | B1 | I understand familiar topics from my everyday life (university/work/leisure) and can communicate successfully in most everyday situations. I can describe and briefly justify my opinions and plans. | ||
Vantage | B2 | I understand the important information in complex texts/topics and can also follow a discussion on my subject area. I can express myself clearly in everyday situations and on everyday topics. | ||
Advanced | C1 | I can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and can also read between the lines. I can switch easily between formal and informal language use, adapt my choice of words accordingly and express myself clearly, structured and fluently in social / professional life and at university without having to search for words. | ||
Mastery | C2 | I can understand practically everything I read or hear with ease. I can summarize information from different written and oral sources, giving reasons and explanations in a coherent presentation. I can express myself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely and can also make finer nuances of meaning clear in more complex situations. |
