In the last two decades, post-war modernist housing estates have become the focus of much research exploring new ways of 'transforming' these projects and adapting them to changing urban landscapes and societal realities. In some ways, the need for change is an external assumption rather than something genuinely desired by the residents or the housing companies themselves. Hence, the needs of residents may be largely overlooked. While the public perception of these projects as monotonous and repetitive shapes their primary image, the perspectives of academics and researchers are more nuanced. They recognize a range of qualities and pursue methods for spatial and, above all, discursive changes that could give post-war modernist housing a new role. Discussing the term hybridity within this context of change, the symposium aims to provide a glance into the political, academic, and practical tools that can support the implementation of potential urban design strategies and programmatic changes to foster the further development of post-war modernist housing.
