Award for Prof. Dr. Timo Tohidipur

Frankfurt UAS professor achieves second place in the "Humanities, Social and Cultural Sciences" category

Success in the "Professor of the Year" award: Prof. Dr. Timo Tohidipur, Professor of Social Work Law, in particular Migration Law, including its European and international aspects, came second in the "Humanities, Social and Cultural Sciences" category of the award presented by the UNICUM Foundation. Tohidipur, who teaches at the Department of Social Work and Health at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS), was nominated by his students for the nationwide competition. The winners were selected by an independent jury chaired by the former Rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Radtke.

"Prof. Dr. Timo Tohidipur's award is not only a recognition of his achievements, but also a benefit for the students who benefit from his excellent teaching," congratulates Prof. Dr. René Thiele, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at Frankfurt UAS. "However, Tohidipur's commitment goes far beyond teaching: in recent months, together with other members of the Department of Social Work and Health, he initiated a buddy program in which Frankfurt UAS students support refugees from Afghanistan in their new start in Germany."

"In my law modules, I try to work with students to develop an approach to the law that enables them to understand the legal framework so that they can use it independently and confidently in their future work with people. This understanding can and should then also be a basis for a critical approach to legal rules and power relations, which in my view is very important for social work in particular in view of its socio-political significance," says Tohidipur. "In addition to the detailed discussion of many 'real' cases and practice-related constellations in law, for me, for example, regular excursions to court hearings are also part of experiencing a legal reality that we can then reflect on together. The student nomination and support for this award makes me very happy and confirms that these teaching approaches are positively received by many students and is also an incentive for me."

About the "Professor of the Year" award
The most important task of universities and colleges is to prepare students for their career entry alongside their academic education. For the vast majority of students, this means starting a career in non-academic sectors. The commitment of professors is crucial here. In order to promote and recognize this commitment, the UNICUM Foundation awards the title "Professor of the Year" to university lecturers with the title of professor.

The award winners provide their students with relevant basic knowledge, practical skills and sought-after key qualifications. They help their graduates to make a smooth career start and pave the way for careers in many ways. The "Professor of the Year" award has been organized as an annual, nationwide competition since 2006 and is under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.
