Awards video competition 2018

The Center for Applied European Studies (CAES) gave young people the chance to present their vision of a European Union in a video competition 'Imagine a New EU' in March 2018. Under the motto 'Imagine – Create – Inspire', students of all disciplines had to imagine to having been charged with the task to reinvent the EU and to present their ideas in a video of maximally one minute length. Are there even national states in a new EU? Would it function without institutions? There were no limits to the extent of the idea. Prizes of 1,000, 600 and 300 Euro were given to the first, second and third place.

Under the patronage of the Hessian State Minister for Science and Art, Boris Rhein, the relevance of art and culture for the European Union was shown. The jury consisted of the directorate of the CAES oriented itself int eh criteria of innovation and expressiveness. 'We would like to address students from allover Europe to visualize their ideas of a new European Union. The competition 'Imagine a New EU‘ shall show that the proposals of young Europeans must be considered so that the European idea has a future', says Prof. Dr. Dr. Michel Friedman, Managing Director of the AES at the beginning of the awarding of the prizes. 'it is that the young generation develops their ideas of a European Union 2030. Active involvement is now more important than ever.'

The plurality of the visions of the young people in Europe became apparent in the submissions. Students requested for instance the creation of new social-political tools or a stronger focus on cultural identity instead of the deepening of the economic integration.
