Pilot test „Park+Bike“

Duration: June 2020 to December 2021

Funding: The project is financed from own resources.

Head of project: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Petra Schäfer

Contact: Dana Stolte, M.Eng, research assistant

For this pilot test, the parking conditions at five selected Park+Ride facilities in Munich were changed to allow Park+Bike in addition to the classic Park+Ride with public transport. This means that it is now possible to travel on with a bicycle parked there instead of using public transport. The selected locations are at different distances from Munich city centre. The onward journey is possible with a private bicycle parked there, or with a rented bicycle from the Munich public transport company.

The idea is to create an additional access option for commuters for whom the entire distance from home to work by bicycle is too far. In contrast to Park+Ride facilities, facilities that serve exclusively Park+Bike do not have to be located directly near the station. This opens up new location possibilities.

ReLUT is scientifically monitoring the pilot project. For this purpose, users of Park+Ride facilities will be asked about their opinion and their usage behaviour in an online survey. Among other things, this involves the evaluation of the bicycle parking facilities and the rental bike stations. In addition, the distances travelled by bicycle and typical destinations of cyclists will be asked. This information will be used in future planning of Park+Bike facilities.
