Corona: FAQ for Faculty 2

The faculty has implemented major changes to its operations in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to the general FAQ list of the Frankfurt UAS on the effects of the corona pandemic on everyday university life, we have compiled specific information regarding our faculty on this website (regularly updated). If you miss important topics, please contact Kristina Danneberg at kristina.danneberg(at)fb2.fra-uas.remove-this.de.

Contact and Accessibility

Our buildings will be open only from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please use the main entrances.
The BCN tower's north entrance is closed, please use the main entrance.

The library offers a limited service. For the loan service, a pre-order by form is necessary. The library's study rooms, PCs for research, copying and scanning are not available for the time being. Further information can be found on the library website.

Our laboratories will remain open for lab staff, including student employees and tutors. Access is limited to these individuals. The laboratory management will decide whether individual students working on research projects may use the respective laboratory. 

All safety regulations must be observed. An adequate distance between individuals must be maintained. Surfaces, especially door handles and keyboards, must be disinfected regularly. Everyone should wash their hands more often and intensively than usual. Those who feel symptoms of illness, please stay at home to minimize the risk of infecting other people.

Unfortunately, our computer rooms have to remain closed for the time being. Some computer rooms are to be partially reopened soon for use to a limited extent and in strict compliance with safety regulations. We'll keep you updated as to which rooms will be reopened.

Lectures in the summer semester 2020

Semester has begun on April 20; lectures are held online, for example through video conferences and recorded lectures. The central platform we are using is Zoom. You'll find all information about your modules and courses as well as enrolment options via Moodle on the pages of the teaching units:

In addition to the information we provide via Moodle, this website (German only) offers a lot of helpful information as to how the summer semester will be organised as well as on the university's centers and institutes as well as an outlook regarding the winter semester.

Oral and written final examinations

If you would like to register a final thesis (Bachelor's or Master's thesis), please contact our Examination Offices (German only).

As usual, you can send final papers, project work and similar written work as well as other documents to us by post. Please note that the postmark determines whether you have met the deadline. In addition, the digital submission of written works is now also accepted. You can upload your paper via Moodle in the course Prüfungsamt Fachbereich 2.

Please note that compliance with the submission deadline also applies to digital submissions.

There will be a flat-rate extension of 21 days for all final papers that were started before March 18th 2020. In all these cases, the examination office will automatically extend the deadlines for submission. Should there be any further delays due to the Corona crisis or other reasons, applications should be sent to the Examination Office by e-mail stating your reasons.

The Rico Printcenter on campus is still open. There you can have your thesis printed and bound before the final exam. Please send your dissertations (Bachelor/Master) by registered mail to the contact person in our Examination Offices.

If you have any questions, please send them via e-mail directly to the Examination Office (German only).

If you have registered for an exam that was canceled due to the corona pandemic, your registration remains valid. There is no need to cancel your registration. We will inform you about new examinations dates as soon as possible. If you have already canceled your registration, you may re-register for alternative dates.

Please send any applications to our Examination Offices to the chairmen of the boards (German only) via e-mail. Alternatively, applications can also be sent by post.

If you are planning a colloquium/a presentation or if a date has already been set, please get in touch with the respective contact persons in our Examination Offices. It is possible to postpone the date of your final colloquium until April 30, 2020 without having to re-register for the summer semester 2020.

Colloquia (for final theses) and presentations (for practical stages and other projects) are classed as examinations and as such are not suspended. As a matter of principle - and always in compliance with all safety precautions – these exams take place in suitable rooms at the university.

In view of the current situation, it is is possible to hold online exams (colloquia and presentations) in exceptional cases. If you wish your colloquium or presentation to take place online, please submit an application to the examiner. The examinee is not entitled to this exception! 
This regulation is initially valid until May 31, 2020.

The deadline for providing verification of your passed Bachelor's degree before the start of any Master's programme is extended from 30 April 2020 to 21 May 2020. Your student status will be maintained until this date.

Unfortunately, we cannot yet give you any details regarding the examination period in the summer semester. We will inform you as soon as possible.

Practical stage

Due to the Corona pandemic, the Examination Boad has decided: In the winter semester 2020/21 and in the summer semester 2021, the prerequisite proof of pre-study internship for all modules of the third and fourth semester in the study programs Mechanical Engineering B.Eng. (examination regulations 2019), Mechanical Engineering Double Degree Program with the Universidad de Cádiz B.Eng. (examination regulations 2019), Product Development and Technical Design B.Eng. (examination regulations 2019) and Service Engineering B.Eng. (examination regulations 2019) will be suspended.

Please contact our Practice Unit Coordinators via e-mail if you have any questions regarding your practical stage in a company.

All seminars accompanying your Practical Stage are canceled. Please contact your supervisor to speak about the next steps.

All students who had registered on time for the preliminary work "Seminar Präsentationstraining", "Seminar Assessment Center" and "Klausur Industriebetriebslehre" for the module "Praxisphase" (Mechanical Engineering PO2014/PO2019, Mechanical Engineering Spanish-German Double Degree Programme PO2014/PO2019 and Product Development and Technical Design PO 2014/PO2019) and are now affected by the cancellation of these courses due to the corona pandemic may begin the corresponding main module in the course of the summer semester 2020 without proof of the relevant preliminary seminars. This was decided by the Examination Board of Mechanical Engineering on 23 March 2020. However, the module grade can only be registered after proof of attendance of the preliminary seminars has been provided. This proof must be submitted until the end of the 2020 summer semester. 

Team projects

Please contact your supervisor regarding current or upcoming team projects. Group presentations cannot take place at the moment.

All students who had registered on time for the preliminary seminars "Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten" and "Teamarbeit und Projektmanagement" for the module "Teamprojekt" (Mechanical Engineering PO2014/PO2019 and Mechanical Engineering Spanish-German Double Degree Programme PO2014/PO2019) and are now affected by the cancellation of these courses due to the corona pandemic may begin the corresponding main module in the course of the summer semester 2020 without proof of the relevant preliminary seminars. This was decided by the Examination Board of Mechanical Engineering on 23 March 2020. Events

Unfortunately, preliminary courses in maths and physics cannot take place at the beginning of the summer semester. However, we do offer numerous support services for these two subjects and various other topics - please check this website (German only): www.frankfurt-university.de/support.

... are canceled if

  • they do not fall into our core areas of teaching and research,
  • they were designed for an external audience or
  • they are considered major events.
