Internship in Europe

How about an internship within Europe during your studies?

We are happy to support your plans with the Erasmus+ scholarship, regardless of whether it is a mandatory or voluntary internship. However, the internship must be related to your studies.

Unfortunately, we cannot find or arrange an internship for you, but we can provide financial support for your project. It is also possible to complete an internship abroad after graduating and have it funded by Erasmus+.

All information about the funding and how to apply for it can be found here.

Deadline for funding

You can apply for funding at any time.

The deadline is 1-2 months before the start of the internship.

Your complete documents must be submitted to the International Office at least 4 weeks before the start of the internship.

Applications must be submitted via our Mobility-Online application portal.

  • The internship must last at least 60 days (please have the International Office check the period).
  • It must be a full-time position (at least 35 hours per week).
  • The internship must take place in an Erasmus participation country.
  • The internship must be related to your field of study.
  • You must be enrolled at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.
  • Funding for graduates: The internship must take place within one year of graduation; you must still be enrolled at the time of application and be exmatriculated by the start of the internship.

Please note: Internships at EU institutions or in EU projects are not eligible for funding.

The Erasmus+ grant is a partial scholarship.
The monthly funding amount depends on the country group:

Country group 1: 750.00 Euro per month
Country group 2: 690.00 Euro per month

The duration of financial support per internship is a maximum of 4 months per academic year in all country groups. The duration of stay and funding may differ.

Payment of subsidies

Important: The grant will be paid in two installments.
The first installment (80%) will be paid at the beginning of your mobility period, provided that all documents have been submitted in full. You will receive the second installment (20%) after completing your stay and once you have submitted all the necessary final documents.

The country groups are composed as follows:

Group 1:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden

Group 2:
Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain

Inclusion and equal opportunities are central concerns of the Erasmus+ program. The program aims to achieve greater equality of opportunity and inclusion in all areas of education through a variety of measures and opportunities. An essential component in higher education is additional financial support for participants with fewer opportunities in the form of top-ups and real cost support. In order to enable even more people with fewer opportunities to participate in the program in the future, the National Agency for Erasmus+ Higher Education Cooperation at the DAAD (NA DAAD) has not only increased scholarship rates for students, but also expanded the target groups for receiving additional financial support and simplified the conditions for access. Starting in the 2022/23 winter semester, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, students with children, and students from non-academic backgrounds will be eligible to receive a top-up grant. Participants with disabilities or chronic illnesses and participants with children can claim actual costs.

Top-up grant: All recipients of a top-up grant receive a fixed amount of 250 Euro per month in addition to their Erasmus financial grant. It does not matter whether the stay is for study or internship purposes. The top-up grant is only applicable once and is non-cumulative. This means that a first-time academic who takes their child abroad receives €250 per month, as does a student suffering from a chronic illness.  Students who are abroad for short-term mobility (e.g., BIPs) receive a one-time top-up grant of 100 or 150 euros, depending on the length of their stay. The top-up grant is only paid out subject to available funds.

Students with disabilities

Students pursuing a degree or (graduate) internship with a degree of disability (GdB) of at least 20 (proof via notification from the state social welfare office or ID card) can apply for a top-up grant of EUR 250 per month.

Top-up grant for students with disabilities (from GdB 20).

Students with children

Top-up funding for students who take one or more children with them abroad. The amount of the top-up is independent of the number of children. Applications are also possible if the other parent is traveling with the child, but double funding for the child is excluded (if, for example, the other parent also receives Erasmus+ funding).

Students with chronical illness

Top-up funding for students with chronic illnesses.

Students who suffer from a chronic illness and incur additional costs abroad as a result are eligible for special funding.

First-generation academics

Top-up funding for first-generation academics.

Students whose parents or legal guardians do not have a university or technical college degree are eligible for special funding. A degree from a vocational academy that leads to a qualification comparable to a university degree is considered an academic degree. Qualifying documents issued by professional chambers or professional associations under public law (e.g., master craftsman's certificates) are not considered equivalent to academic degrees.

Degrees completed abroad by a parent that are not recognized as such in Germany (e.g., physiotherapy) are considered academic degrees within the framework of the eligibility criteria for receiving additional funding, meaning that there is no entitlement to the supplementary amount.

As part of European Green Travel, Erasmus+ supports sustainable travel within Europe. You can apply for the top-up when you apply for funding.

You can receive additional funding (top-up) for Green Travel for your mobility project if you use a low-emission means of transport (bus, train, or carpooling with 3 or more people).

Depending on the distance, you can apply for 1-6 travel days. Please calculate the distance on the website of the European Comission.
