Traces of the Past: Learn. Reflect. Connect.

Talks, Workshops & Networking for International Students

From April to September 2025, the ScoPE, AStA, the International Office and Faculty 2 – in cooperation with museums and educational institutions – invite you to join our English-language event series "Traces of the Past."

You’ll gain accessible insights into key aspects of German history – and have the chance to discuss, ask your questions, and connect with others.

  • How did Democracy in Germany develop?

  • What was National Socialism – and why does it still affect our society?

  • What does Holocaust remembrance mean – and what responsibility do we carry as the younger generation?

Guided Tour Memorial site at the Frankfurt Grossmarkthalle /European Central Bank

A place of supply becomes a place of terror

The Secret State Police (Gestapo) and NSDAP Gauleitung used the building and its functionality for mass deportations of Jews from 1941. Women, men and children were humiliated and physically abused by the personnel deployed. Robbed of their last possessions, they were finally forced onto the railway track in front of the hall. The trains of the Deutsche Reichsbahn were waiting there for the transports to the ghettos and concentration camps. The daily market went on right next door. The cruel events did not go unnoticed by those working there.
