The study program

Legally compliant contracts - from planning to implementation - are essential for business, human resources and contract management in both a national and international context. They require trained personalities with expertise in contract negotiation, contract drafting and contract analysis. With the help of this degree program, you will mature into such a personality and become familiar with legal issues in international business law.  You will have mastered the art of initiating contracts, formulating services and requests in line with interests and having adequate resolution mechanisms at the ready in the event of conflict.

This Master's in Business Law closes a gap in your business law training and combines advanced theoretical legal training with practical skills - for example in drafting contracts, contract controlling and dealing with digitalized contract processes. Building on your previous knowledge from your studies or career, you will acquire practical knowledge with a theoretical foundation, supplemented by useful tips on strategy and tactics in international contract law.

The focus is on case studies, practical projects and current company examples - in particular on the future topic of digitalization and the demands on modern legal professions in a globalized world.

Career prospects

This Master's in Business Law LL.M. is aimed at interested students from Germany and abroad with a first degree in law or business law who are seeking a further professional qualification in business law. As a graduate, you will be ready for responsible tasks in business, administration and the higher civil service.

You are familiar with various types of contracts and areas of law, are able to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics and have the necessary tools and methods to confidently conduct even complex international contract negotiations. Numerous career paths will open up to you, particularly in the field of digital contract drafting - from compliance and contract law in e-commerce to legal operations in international companies.

Study structure

The first two semesters cover negotiation and the basics of contract drafting, contract management and controlling as well as a wealth of subject-specific contract drafting modules, such as financing, employment and project contracts as well as company and group law contracts. The focus of the course is the highly topical subject of the digitalization of contracts. The legal framework and the practical use of legal tech and AI solutions in the context of contract drafting are taught here.

This is rounded off by the acquisition of special knowledge in the field of international contracts, all of which is taught in English. In the third semester, knowledge of international contract law is further optimized and rounded off by examining conflict resolution methods. The remaining time is available for writing the Master's thesis. In many modules, the theoretical examination of case constellations typical of business practice is supplemented by a case study in which students independently apply and deepen the knowledge they have acquired to a complex case.

The events are held exclusively on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
