The degree course
The MA Diversity and Inclusion has the goal to meet the challenges of increasing diversity of the society and the associated (also conflictual) conflicts with diversity (differentness): handling of diversity with appreciation, nonviolent and under the condition of 'egalitarian difference' (Prengel) is a task of the present and the future for the entire society. Social work is facing the challenge of having to establish sensitivity towards diversity and inclusion as cross-cutting issues in institutions and establishments of social work.
The core competencies of the MA Diversity and Inclusion mark a three-step-process:
- diversity-conscious (self-/practical) reflection;
- differential-critical analysis of structures and practices and
- inclusion-oriented design of solution approaches, measures or interventions - while assuring the participation of the relevant actors.
The close interconnection of professional and interdisciplinary competencies characterize a central profile of the degree course and do not only allow a diversity-sensitive, appreciative demeanor towards clients in professional work contexts, but also promotes a civic engagement on a personal level, which is applied with respect to tolerance and recognition of diversity in general.
Another special and at the same time unique feature is the interdisciplinary collaboration with the master's degree course 'Performative Arts in Social Contexts', which allows a multi-perspective access to different theory approaches, academic cultures, methods and clients. Roughly one third of the degree course is completed in sharing modules.
The degree course is admission restricted. The study spot allocation takes place via local NC procedures.
The admission to the master's degree course Diversity and Inclusion is possible if the following requirements are met:
a) passed final examination of the bachelor's degree course social work of at least six semesters with a minimum of 180 ECTS credits or a respective diploma degree course social education or social work at the Frankfurt UAS
b) passed bachelor, diploma or Magister examination e.g. in the degree course social education, social work, social work, educational sciences with focus on social pedagogy, social work or healing or special needs pedagogy or in a pedagogical degree course (e.g. healing / special needs pedagogy or cultural pedagogy)
c) at least equivalent, similar degree at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences or from another university of applied sciences, university, or professional academy with focus on social studies with a regular period of study of at least six semesters and at least 180 ECTS credits.
d) degree (1st state examination) in teacher training in special, healing or rehabilitation pedagogy and additionally 6-months long practical experience in social work with a total of at least 480 hours
e) degree (1st state examination) in teacher training and attendance in a lecture (of at least 10 ECTS) with contextual relevance to diversity or inclusion (or a thematic focus on diversity and inclusion in the final thesis) and additionally 6-months-long practical experience in social work with a total of at least 480 hours
f) degree in a bachelor's degree course in the fields of social sciences, cultural sciences, gender studies, disability studies or an associated degree course, as well as at least 6 months practical experience in the field of social work with a total of at least 480 hours.
The Master's degree in Diversity and Inclusion enables its graduates to programmatically integrate, establish and further develop diversity-conscious and inclusion-oriented social work on all relevant levels:
- on management level, e.g. during the conceptual design of mission statements in institutions and during the initiation and ascertainment of guidelines when dealing with diversity and for the implementation of inclusion;
- in the conceptual development of offers and measures, e.g. through the initiation and accompaniment of inclusion-oriented projects or measures, such as intercultural opening, diversity management, gender mainstreaming and other change management processes, related to the respective initial situation and conditions of institutions, as well as
- in the practical case/relationship work with clients, e.g. through appreciation of heterogeneity and consideration of an intersectional, biography-conscious and resource-oriented perspective.
